Our Mission

The mission of the American Society of Highway Engineers is to provide a forum for members and partners of the highway industry to promote a safe, efficient and sustainable highway system through education, innovation and fellowship.

  1. April 19, 2012 - Joint meeting with ASCE: Dinner and Presentation. Location: Papa Joe’s, 1561 Akron Peninsula Road, Akron, OH. Speaker: Randy S. Over, PE. Presentation Topic: "18 Years of ODOT Construction Claims — Win Some, Lose Some, but Most are Close to a Tie” (Dispute & Claims Process 1993-Present). [See Meeting Notice here]
  2. May 24, 2012 - ASHE Golf Outing at the Legends. [Golf Outing reservation form: .doc or .pdf]
  3. The State of Indiana has started their continuing education program for registered engineers. (See pdf of announcement.) One item of interest is the approved providers of continuing education. The definition of an approved organization from the Indiana Code 25-1-4-0.2 is described below:
    IC 25-1-4-0.2 -- “Approved organization” defined
    Sec. 0.2. As used in this chapter, “approved organization” refers to the following
         (1) United States Department of Education.
         (2) Council on Post-Secondary Education.
         (3) Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.
         (4) Joint Commission on Healthcare Organizations.
         (5) Federal, state, and local government agencies.
         (6) A college or other teaching institution accredited by the United States
         Department of Education or the Council on Post-Secondary Education.
         (7) A national organization of practitioners whose members practicing in
         Indiana are subject to regulation by a board or agency regulating a profession
         or occupation under this title
    .
         (8) A national, state, district, or local organization that operates as an affiliated
         entity under the approval of an organization listed in subdivisions (1) through (7)
    .
         (9) An internship or a residency program conducted in a hospital that has been
         approved by an organization listed in subdivisions (1) through (7).
         (10) Any other organization or individual approved by the board.
    As added by P.L.157-2006, SEC.10. Amended by P.L.2-2008, SEC.51.

    Please note that ASHE falls within the guidelines of 7 and 8 as noted above. NSPE, ACEC and ASCE also fall within the same guidelines of 7 and 8.
  4. The Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference-2010
    Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference 2010The Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference was held on October 19-20, 2010 in Columbus, Ohio. The Great Lakes Region held a fundraiser at the conference in which two tickets, donated by ASHE National Treasurer David Jones, to The Ohio State University vs. University of Michigan football game was raffled off. The fund raised raised $1650 for the Great Lakes Region. Aimee Hall, of WE Stilson Consulting Group, was the lucky winner. ASHE National President, John Hetrick, presented Aimee with the tickets.
  5. ATSSA/FHWA Work Zone Safety Guideline Products - Designed to help practitioners increase their understanding and application of work zone safety improvement techniques. The ATSSA Area 2 Team has drafted 14 products that are available on the ATSSA website (ATSSA.com) as well as the FHWA website (www.fhwa.dot.gov) and the Work Zone Clearinghouse (www.workzonesafety.org). Printed copies are also available free upon request. Fill out the order form, or call 877.642.4637 to order.
